Intel previews Itanium Processor 9000

February 20, 2011 |

With better power management, improved architecture and reliability,Intel previews its next Itanium mainframe chip processor. Taking into account the advancements in Xeon processor architecture, the chip is code named as Poulson. Targeting the Unix and mainframe markets, no timeline has been set for the chipset.

The Poulson highlights eight cores, 54MB on die memory and bandwidth improvements. Most ideal for the present generation demanding workloads, it features flexible partitioning and dynamic resource management. The Intel Turbo Boost Technology claims extra performance on-demand for peak workloads and parallelism for fast processing.

Compatibility with the previous versions of Itanium chips and the 32 nanometer process technology are impressive specs of the chip. In many respects, the Poulson seem to resemble Xeon. Both are pin compatible and are capable of running all mission critical applications. There has been no details available on the price and release date.

Intel releases six-core i7-990X-the fastest desktop chip yet

February 15, 2011 |

The fastest desktop processor ever, Intel six-core i7-990X has started shipping. Running at a clock speed of 3.46GHz, the chip includes 12MB of cache and uses 130 watts of power. What is more interesting is the manual overclocking that further improves the processor speed.

In addition, the chip comes with a feature named Turbo Boost that can power the clock speed to a 3.73GHz peak. The speed delivered will depend on the power used and the application performance. Based on the old Westmere architecture, these processors are free from the Sandy Bridge flaw that Intel had recently announced. The Sandy Bridge flaw had resulted in serious setback to the company reputation which they expect to gain back with the new release.

Along with the Intel announcement came CyberPower’s announcement of the gaming desktop that runs on the processor. The $4,465 gaming system is named as Black Mamba. The new processor with its great speed and performance capabilities … Read More

Nvidia Announces Quad-Core “Kal-El” Chipset

February 15, 2011 |

Nvidia today announced the first quad-core processor for tablets and mobiles, the Kal-El chipset. Nvidia has also unveiled an ambitious array of chip sets following the Kal-El. They include Wayne,Logan and Stark- all with more than cent percent processing power than the current Tegra-2 based chip sets. All the future chip sets will have their release by 2014.

The new Kal-El chipset delivers better performance and runs on all mobile platforms. With over five times the graphic performance of Tegra 2, it has the ability to drive 2560 by 1600 monitors. The Kal-El can enable a 10 inch tablet to function as a retina tablet with its high resolution capacity. Even with all this, the power used up by the chipset is lower than that by the Tegra-2.

The Quad-core chipset will increase browsing speed as was proved at the demo. Together, the chip played a 1440p video and the game demos had almost double … Read More

Tips for Buying High-Definition Video Camcorders

October 27, 2010 |

We live in an age that is fast becoming digitalized on every side. The latest home video offering is the digital high definition video camcorders. In the 1960s and 70s we had video camera that were in use for television. These big, bulky objects recorded on analog tapes and needed to be carefully handled.

Consumer camcorders put in an appearance in the 1980s with the analog format continuing well into the 90s. As the camcorder developed, it became smaller and soon home video production was affordable for the average consumer.

The high definition cameras we have today are very compact and provide the best possible picture quality. The concept no doubt remains the same, to capture and focus light into the camera. As consumers grow more discerning in their choices, the demand for higher performance quality soon resulted in digital definition video camcorders to meet consumer requirements.

Now it’s time to go shopping for … Read More
